The world has had the wealth and knowledge to end abject poverty since the late 1960s. Yet, everyday 40,000 people still die from easily preventable causes. At the very least it is the responsibility of the faith community to bear witness to those suffering from extreme poverty.
This inaugural prayer was offered at the historic St Paul's Chapel at Ground Zero in New York City on 9/23/2007.
Now we invite every person, and every congregation in every faith in every country to join countingprayers.org to offer The Counting Prayer to End Extreme Poverty everyday and/or at every service until the Millennium Development Goals are met. Hundreds of thousands of prayers will turn into millions then billions, and as the prayers are answered the repetition of words will turn into advocacy then action, and finally a miracle.
Please join us in our Billion Prayer March-to offer one prayer for every person living in extreme poverty. Together let's show the world's governments that the Millennium Development Goals have to be met, and on time.
